The California Renewable Energy Movement

Clean energy is disrupting the traditional energy market along with California’s commitment to getting all of its energy from climate-friendly sources by 2045. Recently, Governor Jerry Brown mandated a bill designed to move California away from power generation from sources like fossil fuels such as natural gas and coal. With fossil fuels representing about half of the state’s electricity production, and renewables representing about 32% of current generation, it’s clear that the California renewable energy movement is on a roll and here to stay!

California is the Renewable Energy Leader

As the world’s fifth-largest economy, California has a huge influence in the environmental sector nationally and globally. The state is constantly reshaping how industries and countries adapt their energy consumption habits and form new agendas. California is actively showing the rest of the nation how to protect the environment while simultaneously growing the economy. California stands as a role model for the rest of the world when it comes to many things, including clean energy and sustainability. Alongside the California Renewable Energy movement are cities like Atlanta, Boulder, Chicago, and Orlando who have joined in the transition to 100% clean, renewable energy. The renewable energy transition will be complete in these cities no later than 2050 and in some, it will happen as early as 2030! And you might be surprised to know that California wasn’t the first state to originate this concept either. Hawaii became the first state to pass a 100% clean energy mandate back in 2015.
